Bucephalandra diabolica (Devil bucephalandra/Kedagang/Kudagang)
The Bucephalandra diabolica is a captivating epiphyte plant, prized by aquarium enthusiasts for its red stems, stunning iridescent leaves and elongated thecae horns (hence the name diabolica = devilish).
This small, slow-growing variety is grown emersed from a cutting, making it a truly special addition to any aquascape.
It thrives best when attached to rocks, wood, or pebbles — it is essential that the rhizome is never buried in substrate, as this will cause it to rot and ultimately kill the plant. The roots, however, can be gently pushed into substrate if preferred.
Bucephalandra require stable warm temperatures between 20 and 28°C, along with regular fertilisation. Take care not to over-fertilise, as excess nutrients can encourage algal growth, which may hinder the plant's development. Lower light levels are recommended for the same reason. Whilst CO₂ supplementation is beneficial, it is not essential for this plant to thrive.
With the right conditions and attentive care, this remarkable plant will reward you with beautifully rich, iridescent foliage that adds a striking focal point to your aquarium.
[Note: listing is for the size shown in the photos, plants are sent without substrate or pots to ensure safe transportation. Photo is of the emersed form - the leaves will darken and become more iridescent if submersed. All of our buce are shrimp safe and critter free, none of our buce are grown in vitro, they are all cultivated by us in real-world conditions].

CO₂: Not required
Typical habitat: Emergent/Emersed (roots in water, leaves above) and Submerged/Submersed
Propagation habitat: Emersed, on inert substrate in humidity chamber
This means the habitat that we've grown the plant(s) in, sometimes plants are grown in different habitats when propagating.
Water type: Freshwater
Propagation method: Via rhizome cuttings
Have chemicals or chemical fertilisers been used in propagation: No
Origin: Indonesian Borneo, West Kalimantan
This means where you might find the plant in the wild, or for very rare species, where the original samples were discovered. We propagate all plants ourselves.
Additional notes: Grows very well in very low light
