Red Root Floaters Phyllanthus Fluitans (x50 Plants) Extra Red Variety
[Note: listing is for 50 plants].
This is an easy to care for species, with red roots, and beautiful bright red leaves when exposed to plenty of light.
Ensuring there is sufficient iron in the water also promotes the bright red colour, as does the wavelength of your lights (they like plenty of blue spectrum). We have propagated this variety ourselves for its stunning red colour.
[Note: it's the action of the iron chelating phosphate out of the water which we believe promotes the red colour, rather than the iron uptake itself]
The plants take CO₂ from the atmosphere so don't require a high tech setup. They grow quite fast and are excellent at taking up nutrients to help keep your water clean and healthy. They are fantastic at helping to control algae.
They like a bit of warmth so are great in tropical aquaria or heated cold water aquaria, but they'll be too cold in an outdoor pond. We recommend a minimum of 18°C and they thrive above 22°C.
Their fine roots provide perfect hiding places for smaller fish and fry.
As with most floating plants they don't like a lot of current or the tops of their leaves to be wet. If you've got a lid on your tank it's best to leave an air gap so they don't get damp with condensation.
The plants are grown by us in our specialist aquaria, using our own sustainable methods. We don't use chemicals or chemical fertilisers on these plants so they are snail and shrimp safe too.
All of our plants are grown in real world conditions, not in stale agar in a laboratory, so they will adapt really quickly to their new home and there should be no danger of melting which happens with plants from grow cups.
